Choosing the right hedge

Functionality is key when making your choice, however environment, soil type, drainage and plant requirements are also important factors.

Consider the function of your hedge, this will help determine the type of hedge you require. For example, a security hedge should have a dense habit, possibly with thorns, whilst an ornamental hedge will serve best when rich with seasonal colour.

Most deciduous hedges lose their leaves in autumn, reducing their effectiveness for screening pollution, wind and privacy. Evergreen hedges, with their year-round foliage might be better suited to such demands.

Each hedging variety will thrive if given its desired environment. Our comprehensive range offers solutions for dry, wet, exposed, coastal and sheltered sites, even those prone to pollution; plus safe options for the containment of horses and livestock.
